Just what is Australian cuisine? Its a valid question considering just how multi-cultural and young this country is. So upon hearing that widely acclaimed and now TV Chef Jock Zonfrillo had invested over 10 years of research into this very question, we had to pop our heads in and find out just where he drew a conclusion.

Jock moved across to Adelaide following a wide and diverse Chef experience in some of the finest restaurants of London and Sydney including working alongside quirky artist Damian Hirst at The Pharmacy. In his quest he now owns a two-story restaurant on Rundle Street which is split into 2 separate dining experiences, though both shaped around the offering of a truly Australian feed. We popped into the more informal street level restaurant; Street-ADL.

Street_ADL is a celebration of Australia’s multiculturalism in that it combines street food from all over the world adding to this an Australia street-food creation of their own; the Croc-Dog!

It’s the energy and vibrancy of this place that will bring us back, a bustle of an atmosphere but really fun. The staff were all too happy to ensure you got the best experience by taking you through the details of every flavour – PS we highly recommend the Lemon Aspen Collins cocktail to accompany your food!

The interior is industrial chic, designed by a local graphic design team MASH but doesn’t feel as local as the cuisine with large Hispanic style timber crucifixes and Jesus figurines carefully looking over you.

At Street_ADL the dishes are globally inspired though combined quite neatly with local and native ingredients. The menu is very affordable which is a nice contrast to the neighbouring restaurants. Though if you’re feeling a bit fancy and keen to really get into Chef Jock Zonfrillo’s vision head upstairs for a degustation at Orana (Aboriginal for ‘welcome’).

Open 7 days from 11am til late! You may even be lucky to find some live music!

“Journey with us as we discover more about the tastes and flavours of our native and indigenous surroundings. Welcome to a decade of exploration and research of country and culture.”
